This year for the first time the percentage of children in Ohio that were identified as Gifted and Talented in the end equaled the percentage of children who were served in Special Education Classrooms. There are currently only 11% of all Talented and Gifted students being served in the State of Ohio. The Ohio Department of Education and the Federal Government gave a combined total $773 million for Special Education Programs around the state of Ohio this year. This amount includes professional development, classroom supplies, technology acquisition, testing supplies, and teacher s alary. Gifted Education received $48 million from Ohio and no funding from the federal official government this year. This $48 million can only spent on teachers salaries. This $48 million cannot be used to consecrate for any benefits the teacher will get by working in a school district, benefits like health insurance, and retirement.
